The Moran Theater at Times Union Center has several rules and policies to ensure its performances run smoothly and keep its patrons safe and happy. It is worth familiarizing yourself with the Moran Theater’s protocols before you visit, so you can enjoy your night and know what’s what ahead of time.
Safety protocols
Please see some of the most essential safety information below:
Prohibited items
There are several prohibited items that you cannot take into Moran Theater. These have been put into place to ensure the safety of the theater’s guests. The theater’s management reserves the right to deny access to people holding the following items:
Smoking products
Tobacco products, e-cigarettes, and vapes are not allowed inside the venue.
Food and drink
Outside food and drinks, including snacks, meals, and beverages, unless specified by the event or venue. Don’t worry if you need to grab a snack ahead of a show, as there are plenty of amenities inside to choose from. Inside the lobby, you’ll be able to choose from pretzels, popcorn, and french fries, as well as alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Bear in mind that guests will be asked to show proper identification and proof of age when buying alcoholic beverages.
Bags and luggage
For security reasons, large bags and backpacks are prohibited. Small handbags or purses are usually allowed, but they may be subject to inspection. All bags brought into Jacksonville Center for the Performing Arts must be 12” x 6” x 12” or smaller. Medical device carriers in excesses of the maximum bag size are permitted but again, will be subject to search.
Cameras and recording devices
Cameras and video/audio recording devices are usually prohibited, especially during performances like Broadway shows or concerts, where copyright laws apply. Cell phones are allowed, but must be switched off or turned to silent mode and remain stowed away throughout the duration of the performance. This is because the bright lights emitted from the devices can be distracting both for performers and other members of the audience.
Animals
Animals are not allowed in the theater. However, trained service animals are permitted to assist guests inside the Times-Union Center. Be sure to let the venue know if you have any extra needs prior to your visit.
Accessibility
Guests are permitted to drive into the front circular driveway on Water Street, giving passengers time to unload before parking. While waiting for the vehicle to be parked, the guest may wait at the security desk on the right side of the lobby for the rest of their party to arrive.
There is an elevator inside for those with wheelchair needs.
If someone in your party needs an interpreter, Jacksonville Center for the Performing Arts provides sign language interpreters for entertainment events free of charge to the hearing impaired. Bear in mind you must request this service at least two weeks in advance to ensure availability.
